Mowry, Elizabeth Ann 'Betty'
MARION - Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Mowry, 79, of Marion, formerly of Lowden, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Visitation: 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a vigil beginning at 6 p.m., and one hour before the service at the church. Graveside service: 2:30 p.m., Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Betty was born the oldest daughter of Hugo and Apoline (Schmitt) Busche, on the family farm between Alpha and Waucoma, Iowa. She graduated from Alpha High School in 1948. Betty attended AIB in Des Moines before returning home to help on the family farm until moving, in 1957, to Waterloo, where she worked at the Waterloo Savings Bank. She married Robert A. Mowry on Aug. 18, 1959, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waterloo. Together they had five children.
After living for a short time in Waterloo and Oelwein, they moved to Lowden, where they lived for 35 years before moving to Marion in 1997.
Betty was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother. She was a homemaker and housewife for 51 years of her married life.
Betty is survived by her husband, Bob; her son, Chris (Gail) Mowry of Gainesville, Fla.; four daughters, Catherine (Alfonso) Perez of Westfield, Ind., Angela (Scott) Daugherty of Cedar Rapids, Mary (Don) Roberts of Fishers, Ind., and Valerie Mowry of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons; nine granddaughters; one great-grandson; a brother, Gervase Busche of Chicago; two sisters, Mary Jane Petersen of Pendleton, Ore., and Nancy Pleggenkuhle of Winterhaven, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Danna Lu Donohoe of Stanwood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother-in-law, Lucile Mowry; and brothers-in-law, John Donohoe and Merle Pleggenkuhle.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Betty's memory.
