Mounif F. Shaheen, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, in Iowa City surrounded by his loving family. Visitation 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Monday, October 21, 2024, with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 pm at St. George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Service will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at St. George Orthodox Church. Interment will be at St. George Orthodox Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
He was born May 17, 1939, in Lebanon to Fouad and Loutfieh (Baba) Shaheen. Mounif came to the U.S. over 50 years ago. Shortly after coming to the U.S. Mounif began working alongside Mikhael Elossais (Mikhael's Restaurant). It was because of this special friendship that Mounif, along with his wife Houda opened their own restaurant, The Olive Tree. The restaurant was their second home. The relationships that Mounif & Houda built through the restaurant were very important to them. Mounif was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Mounif is survived by his wife Houda (nee Bachaalany), sons Dorey (Amber) Shaheen, and Chris Shaheen, grandchildren Shaylee, Alyse, Bryer, and Aniston.
He was preceded into death by his parents; and his daughter Rania Shaheen.
Memorial donations may be given to St. George Orthodox Church in Cedar Rapids.
