Mottinger, Laura E.
Laura E. Mottinger, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, May 7, 2012, at Westridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. John Louk. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Laura Cardriver of Canada and Julie Mottinger of Kewanee, Ill.; grandchildren, Aurora Cardriver and Cyrene (Jacob) Hokanson; great-grandchildren, Camellia Celeste Cardriver and Bryn and Leif Hokanson; sisters, Rose (Vernon) Skarin of Woodbine, Gertrude Burda of Lincoln, Neb., and Caroline (Lynn) Dent of Irwin; and brother, Benjamin (Joyce) Reuwsaat of San Jose, Calif.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louis; daughter, Merry Ellen Mottinger in 1974; sister, Emily Reuwsaat; brother, Robert Reuwsaat; and brother-in-law, Emil Burda.
Born Dec. 11, 1927, in Denison, Iowa, Laura was the daughter of Ernst and Sarah (Trexel) Reuwsaat. Laura graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1946. On Dec. 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Louis Mottinger. He died in 1978. Laura worked as a legal stenographer, a legal secretary and was a medical secretary for St. Luke's Hospital for over 18 years.
Laura volunteered at Mental Health Advocates of Linn County, Harrison School and Methwick Manor. She served on the PTA, was a Blue Bird Camp Fire Girl leader, church schoolteacher and choir member.
Laura was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
