Morrissey, David Leo
David Leo Morrissey, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, May 11, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. and Knights of Columbus will recite the rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit from 3 to 7 p.m. Friends may also visit Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
He is survived by his six children, Dennis (Mary), Karen (Duane) Funk, Joseph (Jody), Loren, Patricia Goins and Barbara (Tracy) Eggleston, all of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Margery Ann (Kuhn) Morrissey on June 8, 2009; parents; brother, John; and three sisters, Marilyn Kinley, Janet Hesseltine and Marna Butz.
Leo was born May 10, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Dr. David and Rose (Redmond) Morrissey. He married Margery Ann Kuhn on Aug. 3, 1948, in Spillville, Iowa Leo retired in 1984 after 26 years as a postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service.
He served in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. Leo was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus No. 5544 and Bowen General Assembly 4th Degree of Knights of Columbus.
