Morris, John D.
John D. Morris, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab, Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky and the Rev. Tom Capo officiating. Entombment to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Due to recent construction, it is required that visitors to Cedar Memorial enter making a right turn from westbound First Avenue (heading toward downtown).
John was born Nov. 8, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, to Walter and Mary (Kozojed) Morris. He graduated from Franklin High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served his country for three years. After his service in the Navy, John went to work at Russell Guide as a book binder, where he spent 45 years with the company. John married Catherine Cook in Green Cove Springs, Fla., on May 25, 1957. John was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include son, Jerry; daughter, Terri; brother, Alfred; and a grandson, Robert Janey II. Also surviving are four other grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Catherine; daughter, Sonia; and sister, Edyth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Mercy Hospice.
