Moreland, Vanessa O.

Vanessa O. Moreland, 56, of 1721 14th Ave. SE, Cedar Rapids, was called home Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics, Iowa City, following a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Gospel Tabernacle Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Rodrick S. Dooley. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her husband, Lance; her mother, Willa Mae Brown; two children, Tanea Moreland and Tiffany Moreland, both of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Gary Brown of Des Moines, Vernon Brown and Vincent Brown, both of Las Vegas, Victor (Sandy) Brown and Jason (Jody) Brown, both of Cedar Rapids; mother-in-law, Eloysie Wilson; godmother, LaQuesta Doolin of Cedar Rapids; mentor, Evangelist Mary Coates; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Vanessa was preceded in death by her father, William V. Brown.

Vanessa was born April 12, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of William V. and Willa Mae (Mattison) Brown. She lived here all her life, marrying Lance Moreland on May 24, 1975, and working as a substance abuse counselor for the Area Substance Abuse Council.

Vanessa was passionately dedicated to her family and the service of others. She was active in the ministry at Oak Hill Jackson Community Church and was an example of faith in Christ to all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
