Moravec, Victor L.
Victor L. Moravec, 91, a resident of the Western Nursing Home in Cedar Falls, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at the care center after a short illness. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Mount Calvary Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Sue Moravec and her husband, Jay Brandt, of Des Moines; and three sons, Steven (Jeanette) of Cedar Falls, Greig (Barbara) of Germantown, Wis., and Jeff (Kelly) of Brooklyn Park, Minn. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Tracy; and two sisters, Grace and Marjorie.
Vic was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Victor and Minnie Lindsay Moravec. After graduating from Franklin High School in 1936, he joined the Navy and served four years aboard the USS Pennsylvania. During World War II he worked at Collins Radio. Vic married Jane McNally in October 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1988. He was an engineer at Universal Engineering for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Vic was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He played tennis, baseball, and golf; made numerous trips to Canada fishing with family and friends and enjoyed making model ships.
Vic will be greatly missed by his beloved family.
