Morarie, George William
George William Morarie, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services will be 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
George was born Dec. 31, 1929, in Independence, the son of Ray and Lydia (Masters) Morarie. He married Leona Ohlhauser on Nov. 26, 1966, in Tiffin. George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict, serving on the USS Orleck. George worked at Southside in Cedar Rapids as a bartender. He was a machinist for over 22 years and served as chief union steward with Eaton Corporation in Savanna, Ill. Following retirement he worked for many years at Brothers III in Cedar Rapids.
He enjoyed dancing with his wife, fishing, camping, hunting and spending time with his family. He was a proud member of Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post 788, American Legion Post 298, and AMVETS.
George is survived by his wife, Leona; son, Steve Morarie of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Teresa (Bob) Bauer of Savanna, Ill.; one granddaughter, Alicia Bauer; his beloved dog, Susie; three sisters, Florence Van Wagner, Doris (Bernie) Schultz and Norma Bradley; a brother, Glenn Morarie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Eggers.
