Moorman, Marie R.
Marie R. Moorman, 101, of Manchester, formerly of rural Greeley, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, at St Mary's Catholic Church in Manchester, by the Rev. John Flaherty. Interment: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester. Visitation: 2 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, where there will be a 2 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters. Visitation also will be held after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the church.
Survivors include her children, Lavern and Priscilla Moorman of Strawberry Point, Don Moorman and special friend, JoAnn Harris, Jerry and Rosie Moorman, Marge and Ernie Thole, all of Manchester, Leona and Ralph Wegmann and Joyce and Loras Jarding, all of Farley; son-in-law, Dave and Alice Tauke of Dyersville; daughter-in-law, Norita Moorman of Manchester; 31 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Pearl Recker of Dyersville, and Irene Recker of Iowa City.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph on Sept. 5, 1999; daughter, Joan Tauke; son, John Moorman; granddaughter, Beth Overman; six brothers, Ray, Irvin, Florian, Gib, Jerry and Ernie Recker; and two daughters-in-law, Mary Moorman and Judy Moorman.
She was born March 22, 1909, in Sand Springs, to Henry and Rose Willenborg Recker. Marie attended parochial school in Worthington. She was united in marriage to Joseph H. Moorman on Sept. 23, 1930. They lived on Grandfather Henry Moorman's farm near Cascade until 1936, when they moved to their farm in rural Greeley, where they lived until 1974, when they moved to Manchester. Marie was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Catholic Daughters.
