Moore, Patricia LaVonne
Patricia LaVonne Moore, 75, of Sigourney, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Pat was born Dec. 17, 1936, in Sigourney, the only child of Clyde and Thelma (Snakenberg) Buckles. Her father died when she was three and she was raised by her grandparents and mother. Pat graduated from Sigourney High School in 1955. In 1956 she married Merlin Bennett. The couple had three children: Merlin Douglas, LuAnn, and LaVonne.
Pat was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible School when her children were young. She also was a Boy and Girl Scout leader. Pat worked at Dr. Don's office for several years and then Iowa Culvert Builders, retiring in 1995. In 1998 she married Walter Moore in Fort Myers, Fla.
Pat enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, crafts, RVing over the whole country, spending winters in Fort Myers, and attending the rallies with the American Motor Coach Association. Pat was a caring and loving person who listened to her family with understanding and shared her love freely.
Survivors include her husband, Walter, of Sigourney; two daughters, LuAnn Moses of Urbandale, and LaVonne (Michael) Bloem of Sigourney; two stepsons. John Moore of Burlington, and Dan Moore of Sigourney; one stepdaughter, Debra Moore of Renton, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Thelma Latcham and Clyde Buckles; her precious grandparents, Lela and Louie Snakenberg; and her loving son, Merlin Douglas Bennett.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Pastors Jim Bringman and Jim Stout officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Hospice. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Sigourney is caring for Patricia and her family. Condolences may be emailed at under obituaries.
