Moore, Helen Virginia
Helen Virginia Moore, 93, of Sperry, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Living Faith Parish United Methodist Church, Monona. A second memorial service will be held at noon Monday, May 30, at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Chaplain Harold Schutte will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in New Albin. Friends may call one hour before the service Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her children, Audrey Moore of Des Moines, Steven Moore of Omaha, Neb., Keven Moore of Apple Valley, Calif., and Dan Moore of Sperry; three grandchildren, Laurie Davis, Willie Wampler and Shawn Hildebrand; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, Peter and Edna Hefner; daughter, Noreen McCubbin; one grandson; two sisters and two brothers.
Helen was born May 9, 1918, in Volney, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Edna (Stafford) Hefner. Helen married Raymond Moore on June 24, 1942, in Volney. Raymond passed away June 26, 1995. Helen graduated with the class of 1936 from Waukon High School. She was a homemaker, who was an accomplished poetry writer, and enjoyed gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Iowa Hospice of Southeast Iowa in Helen's name.
