Moore, Frederick Russell

Frederick Russell Moore, 69, of Marion, passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 26, 2012, after many years of struggle with Parkinson's disease. Visitation will be held Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3855 Katz Dr., Marion, from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, beginning at 10:30 a.m. by Pastor Craig Brown of First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. Fred will be interred in Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion, following the service.

Fred was born in Harlingen, Texas, on May 20, 1943, to Frederick John and Charlene Ethel (Weisert) Moore. After graduating from Marion High School in 1963, Fred enlisted in the Air Force and served in Alaska, Washington, Florida and Texas. While stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane, Wash., he met and married Jane Elaine Brown on Sept. 1, 1966. After an honorable discharge in 1971, he returned to Marion and joined his father working at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. In 1980, he began working at National Oats and retired from there in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; three daughters, Lisa (Martin) Wissenberg, and her two daughters, Kayla and Aryn Marner, all of Cedar Rapids, Carrie (Robbie) Hanson, and her three children, Chelsea, Jacob and Meghann, and a great-grandchild, Spenser, all of Cedar Rapids, and Tracy Moore of Marion. He is also survived by his siblings, Patricia Ledee, Dennis Moore, Devan Hanson, Carol Jacobs and Doren Moore.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, John Frederick; and his parents.

Fred loved corny jokes, tinkering in his garage, working on cars, listening to Elvis Presley, watching John Wayne movies, and collecting miniature cars. Even through his battle with Parkinson's disease, he did not complain and kept his sense of humor, always having a joke for his caretakers.

Fred will be remembered for his ever present sense of humor, kind hearted practical jokes and his love for his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in honor of Fred to Hospice of Mercy, 701 10th St. SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52403, or to the Parkinson's disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
