Moomey, Ernest L. 'Ernie'
UPDATED - Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, at Asbury United Methodist Church, 350 27th Ave. SW, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.
CEDAR RAPIDS - Ernest L. “Ernie” Moomey, 59, of 3009 12th Ave. SW, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, as a result of burns received in a fire at his home. Memorial services will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a sister, Eunice Kline of Shellsburg; three brothers, Kenneth of Ankeny and Dennis and Delane, both of Cedar Rapids; and two sons, Nate Prevo and a biological son born in 1982.
Ernie was born Dec. 14, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Elmus and Lenora (Peyton) Moomey. He was a truck driver and drove for several local companies. Most recently he was employed at Head Start and was affectionately known as “Grandpa Ernie.” He enjoyed watching all sports and was an avid Hawkeye fan.
A memorial fund has been established in Ernie's name.
He will be lovingly missed by all those who knew him.
