Monica Huelman Zaruba, 40, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 2200 Second Ave., Vinton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Mark Ressler as celebrant. You are invited to lunch and fellowship after the funeral Mass.
Monica Amber was born Oct. 14, 1977, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ken and Regina Huelman. She grew up and attended Vinton-Shellsburg schools, graduating in 1996. Monica attended Iowa State University in Ames and played on the women's basketball team from 1996 to 2000. She earned a degree in horticulture. She was currently employed by Country Landscapes in Ames and North Liberty. She married Terry Zaruba on July 30, 2011.
She is survived by her husband, Terry; her parents, Ken and Regina Huelman; her sister, Andrea Naillon; her mother- and father-in-law, Linda and Tom Zaruba; brothers-in-law, Mike Naillon and Troy and Tim Zaruba; sisters-in-law, Theresa and Amy Zaruba; and nieces, Taylor, Caspien and Alexis Zaruba and Josie Naillon.
The family requests memorials be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
