Coralville
Monica T. "Tess" Kistler, 58, of Coralville, died at her home on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lensing's Oak Hill, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Pastor Connie Spitzack will officiate. Instead of flowers and plants, memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or the U of I Dance Marathon.
Monica was born March 30, 1960, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of David and Monna (Bolles) Snyder. Growing up in Grinnell, she graduated from Grinnell High School and moved to Iowa City, attending the University of Iowa. It was there where Monica met her future husband, Mark Kistler. The couple married on July 14, 1984, in Grinnell.
Monica began her career at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1980, making many friends in several units. She really enjoyed the personal interactions with patients and families during her time as birth registrar and then in guest services. Her concern for people truly was genuine.
Monica enjoyed time with her family, particularly her Saturdays with granddaughter Zoey. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and loved to keep up with many friends and relatives and their families on social media. Monica was an avid reader in her free time. Going to concerts was a favorite activity. Monica loved to travel, especially when going to a beach. She spent many hours walking the beach collecting sea shells. Fortunately, she was able to enjoy a stay on Emerald Isle, N.C., this September ahead of the hurricane.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; daughter, Kristen Struzynski (Jason) of Oxford; and son, Brian of Aurora, Colo.; her parents, David and Monna Snyder of Grinnell; brothers, Doug Snyder (Judy) of West Des Moines and Mark Snyder (Lynn) of West Branch; granddaughter, Zoey Struzynski; aunt, Marlys Leonard; uncle, Kirk Bolles (Judy); sister-in-law, Belinda Kernaghan (Jim); brother-in-law, Robert (Barbara); and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard "Pete" and Ruth Snyder, Max Bolles and Verna and Ralph Hopka.
