Mollie Peiffer
MOLLIE ADELE PEIFFER
Cedar Rapids
Mollie lost her struggle with dementia and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma on Oct. 8, 2017, in Loveland, Colo.
She was the youngest of five children born to Arthur and Mollie (Timp) Sauser in 1936 in Cascade, Iowa. After the Depression, they moved to Cedar Rapids, where she graduated from St. Patrick's High School.
She met Omer Peiffer at Immaculate Conception Church and Omer often joked that he "picked up Mollie at the corner of Third Avenue and 10th Street SE." In 1957, they were married there. They went on to raise four children in rural southeast Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1988 after a battle with kidney cancer.
Mollie was a devoted wife and mother and an outstanding baker and homemaker. She was especially known for her pies and frosted Santa cookies.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Kathryn) of Loveland, Colo., Orv (Mary Beth) of Cedar Rapids, Wanda (David) Keogh of Seattle, Wash., and Duane (Kathy) of Woodstock, Ill.; and grandchildren, Kate, Jon (Maggie), Matt, Logan, Veronica, Sam, Brian Peiffer and Emily and Nathaniel Keogh.
She also is survived by many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Jeanne (Herbert) Peiffer of Sigourney, Maxine (Ed) Peiffer and Evaline (Leo) Adam, both of Washington, Iowa, and Mae (Norbert) Peiffer of Marion.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by great-granddaughter, Aurora Beranek; brother, Orville (Virginia) Sauser; sisters, Mary Jane (Jack) Gift, Gloria (Bill) Jack and Arliss Rodgers; and many Peiffer sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Mollie chose to be cremated, and there will be a private family burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
If you wish, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice in Mollie's name.
