Moe, Betty
Betty Moe, 78, of Monticello, died Saturday, April 17, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.

Surviving are three children, Deb (Scott) Behrends of Anamosa, Tim Moe of Coon Rapids, Minn., Dr. Scott (Veronica) Moe of Marlborough, Mass.
Also surviving are six grandchildren, Claire and Quinn Behrends, Ashley and Lauren Moe and Alexander and Christopher Moe; and a sister, Elsie (Earl) Kvamsdale of Swea City.
She was preceded by her parents; her husband, John; and a brother, Ivan.
Betty Selberg was born June 30, 1931, at Ledyard, Iowa, in Kossuth, County. She was the daughter of Fred and Mae E. Rolle Selberg. Betty was the valedictorian of the Ledyard High School, class of 1949. She attended Waldorf College graduating in 1951 with her teaching certificate. On July 19, 1953, Betty Selberg and John Moe were married in the Methodist Church at Sioux Falls. Betty taught elementary education at Forest City and Algona. She also worked at the ASCS office in Sibley. When the couple moved to Perry, Betty operated an in home day care business. In 1979 the couple moved to Blooming Prairie, Minn., where she worked at the Prairie Manor Care Center.
In 1984, John and Betty moved to Wabasso, Minn., and purchased the Wabasso Standard newspaper. They published the Standard until April 1997, when they retired and moved to Springville, Iowa. John died Dec. 10, 1997. Betty moved to Monticello, shortly there after where she went to work in the dietary department of the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. From 1999 until 2008, she worked as a secretary at GeoSource.
Betty was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church. She belonged to Presbyterian Women and has been the treasurer since 2004, the Sarah–Ruth Circle where she served as the secretary and a member of the Memorial Board. When the family lived in Perry, Betty taught Sunday school. She had also been a church organist in the early years of her life. In 2003, Betty started learning how to play Bridge, and was an avid student of the game.
