Mitchell, Richard J.
Richard J. Mitchell, 84, of Fairfax, died peacefully Sunday, July 29, 2012, at Colonial Manor in Amana. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
Richard is survived by his children, Kathleen of Canton, Minn., Dennis of Kalona, Peg (David) Ollinger of Wind Lake, Wis., Becky Granneman of Fairfield, and Richard (Mitch) of Fairfax; five grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, Heath, Gretchen and Kyle; three great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kobe and Adelyn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia; daughter, Kathryn; two grandchildren; sister, Mardi Voss; brothers-in-law, Stan Andrle and Regis Voss; and nephew, David Voss.
Richard was born June 22, 1928, to Lester Earl and Winifred Kathryn (Morrin) Mitchell in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Roosevelt High School. He married Amelia Agnes Andrle on Sept. 13, 1952. Richard was a lifelong farmer and member of the American Legion Pekomy Post #572 in Fairfax and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed bowling and playing bridge.
Our family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Lakeview Village, Colonial Manor and Essence of Life Hospice for their compassionate and loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Essence of Life Hospice in Amana.
