Mitchell, Larry Gene 'Buck'

Larry Gene “Buck” Mitchell, 67, of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at his home. Celebration of Life: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; three children, Julie Kienol of Mallard, Scott (Angela) Mitchell of Fort Riley, Kan., and Kristin (Jeremy) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; stepmother, Pearl; siblings, Pam (Dan) Schmitz of La Porte City, Roseann (Mike) Spooner of Waterloo and Nancy Mitchell of Jesup; stepsiblings, Lee (Linda) Rops of Florida, Paul (Janet) Rops of Wisconsin and Karen Roberts of Bedford; and a half brother, Gary Mitchell of Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Charlie; granddaughter, Jordan; and brother-in-law, John Roberts.

Larry was born April 17, 1944, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald and Ione (Ritchie) Mitchell. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967. He married Carol Muller on Feb. 23, 1968, in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Larry was very passionate about his Iowa Hawkeyes, NASCAR, and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
