Mitchell, David D.
David D. Mitchell, 75, of North Liberty, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011, at home following a brief illness. Family and friends will celebrate David's life from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 18, at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, 210 Holiday Rd., Coralville, where a brief service of remembrance will be held at 6 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.
David is survived by his wife, Mary K. of North Liberty; three children, Melissa McCauley of Lawrence, Kan., Angela Newberry of Cedar Rapids and Allen Yordi of North Liberty; and eight grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
David was born May 22, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the son of David and Lorraine (Dieman) Mitchell. David was a graduate of the University of Iowa, the UI College of Law and had served in the Korean War. On Sept. 30, 1988, he married Mary K. Thomann in Cedar Rapids.
David was a longtime Cedar Rapids attorney. He enjoyed playing the banjo, collecting vintage cars and was a pilot of experimental aircraft. David was a hunter and avid Hawkeye fan.
