Miriam passed away peacefully on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018. She was born to Chet and AnnaMae (Sheridan) McKone on Dec. 15, 1934, in Lawler, Iowa.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and by her siblings, Regena (McKone) Lindeman and Helen McKone. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Colleen Ann.
Myrnie graduated from Lawler High School in 1953 and from Mount St. Clare College in 1957 with a degree in education. She started her teaching career in Decorah, where she met her husband. Miriam received an additional degree from Mount Mercy. She taught at a couple different schools in Marion and finished her career at Indian Creek as a reading specialist for elementary school students. After retiring, she and her husband moved to Elk River, Minn., to be near her children and closer to the family cabin in Cross Lake, Minn.
Miriam was active with volunteering at schools, church and community organizations. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and a variety of home projects. Miriam was very proud of her Irish heritage and loved to share its traditions, especially in March with green and shamrocks on display. Her real passions centered around her family and their time together at Lake O'Brien.
Miriam is survived by her children, Shawn Corkery (Kim Henderson), Maureen (Jeremy) Johnston and Kean (Jane) Corkery; and her grandchildren, Jennifer Johnston (Craig Czuprynski), Megan Johnston, McKone Corkery, Seamus Corkery and Flannagan Corkery.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2019, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3030 IA Highway 24, Lawler, Iowa. Friends may gather one hour prior to Mass at the church.
