Miriam Arlene Dircks, 87, passed away Jan. 6, 2016, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction following a lingering illness.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the United Methodist Church. Family will meet with friends and relatives beginning at 1 p.m. at the church.
Miriam Arlene Buster (Bus) was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Port Louisa, Iowa, to Kenneth Buster and Myrle (Thompson) Buster. She married Robert L. Dircks on July 31, 1954, in Moline, Ill. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Bus worked at Columbus Junction State Bank for over 30 years. Following her retirement she worked at H&R Block in the Mesa, Ariz., area while she and Bob were spending winters there.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction, United Methodist Women in various circles, Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion and Cedarcrest County Club in Columbus Junction. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed playing cards, golf and doing puzzles. She always enjoyed a good laugh.
Miriam is survived by her daughters, Roberta (Jon) McCright of Cedar Rapids and Deena (Kevin) Ollinger of Atkins; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She also is survived by a special niece, Susie (Roger) Edwards of Columbus Junction; several other nieces and nephews; and many, many good friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Ken; her parents; her sister, Marlene Griffin; and two brothers, Neal and Richard Buster.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
The family sends a special thanks to Hospice of Washington County, her nurse, Sandi, and the staff at Colonial Manor for the care that was given to our mother, grandmother and aunt. Your support will not be forgotten.
