Minnie Knox, 95, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at her home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Minnie was born on Sept. 16, 1926, in Arkansas. We celebrated her birthday on Nov. 16. Minnie moved to Milwaukee, Wis., at the age of five. She graduated from North Division High School. Married John L. Knox and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1953. Minnie was a long standing member of Bethel AME Church, very active, always believed in helping others until her stroke in 2007. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and cooking. She was a member/secretary for the Padmore Temple 729/Eastern Star, along with the Criterion Club/The Iowa Association of Colored Women Club, NAACP. She worked several different places and retired from Cryovac.
Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Knox; son, Jay P. Knox; her mother, Viola Miller; grandmother, Lela Jones; brothers, Mervin “Bo-Peep” Byrd and Henry Byrd Jr.; sister, Justine Brown; and her cousin, Jackie Wright.
She is survived by sons and daughters, View Elta McCoy of North Carolina, Rhonda Knox Swims and Darryl Knox of Cedar Rapids, Carletta Knox Seymour and Bryant A. Knox of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family.
