Milton Porter Jr., 71, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family from complications of multiple myeloma. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday
at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where a parish vigil service will begin at
4 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Father Paul Baldwin will officiate at the services.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Lisa (Jeff) Bauer, Monticello; a son, Lee (Nichole), Missouri Valley; six granddaughters, Alexia, Rylee and Breanna Bauer, and Victoria, Alivia and Sophia Porter, four brothers, Bob (Sharon), Hopkinton, David, Daniel (Star) and Daryl (Deb), all of Monticello; and his in-laws, Jim (LuAnn) Faber, Excelsior, N.H., Maureen Faber, Dan (Sharon) Faber, Cascade, Ann (Bob) Kerper, Bernard, Steve (Ann) Faber, Hopkinton, and Mike (Deb) Faber, Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother- and father-in-law, Harold and Gladys Faber; his grandparents; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dorance Milton Porter Jr. was born July 4, 1946, in Wesley Hospital, Wadena, Minn. He was the son of Dorance and Velma Bensley Porter Sr. He attended elementary school in Wadena and Bear Creek, Minn. In 1962, the family moved to Iowa and he completed his education at Maquoketa Valley Schools, where he graduated in 1965. After graduation, he began working at Collins Radio in Anamosa and later in Cedar Rapids. He was employed at Collins for 50 years, retiring in 2015. On May 18, 1968, Milton married Shirley Faber at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sand Springs. Two children were born to this union.
Milton was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Monticello. While he was working, he belonged to Local 1363 of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Milt cherished any time spent with his family and especially going to his granddaughter's events.
The family would like to thank the Mayo Clinic and Dr. Mark Valliere, Dr. Wilbur and all the staff at the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids for the excellent care Milt received during his illness.
