Kathryn A. Miller, 88, longtime resident of Iowa City, died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville. There will be a visitation Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Private family graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Kathryn Anna Kabisch was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Augustine and Clara (Keller) Kabisch. She grew up in the Correctionville area, graduating from high school there. On Nov. 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to LuVerne F. Miller in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Iowa City, where LuVerne owned and operated Miller Repair Shop. After his death in 1981, she started a career with Memory Gardens as the cemetery administrator, a position she held until just two years ago, retiring because of her health.
Many will remember Kathryn as the kind soul who would always help you and remember where your loved ones were buried!
She was a member of the Roy Chopek Post 17 of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ceramics Guild. She loved to cook, fish, make ceramics, but most of all, she dearly loved her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her family includes her children, Patricia Miller of North Liberty, Dianne Lee Christner (Anthony) of Iowa City, Debra Jo VanFossen of Davenport, Jan J. Miller of Iowa City and Jeffrey R. Miller (Pamela) of Chicago; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; brother, Walter Kabisch of Moville, Iowa; and her sister, Virginia Shultz of Malcolm, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LuVerne; an infant son, LuVerne Miller Jr.; her granddaughter, Christen Miller; her sister, Opal; and her brother, Robert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to The American Legion Auxiliary.
