Miller, H. Johnette
H. Johnette Miller
An amazing, strong and loving woman is what everyone experienced when they met Jonnye.
Born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Jan. 6, 1926; H. Johnette Miller (Jonnye) died of pneumonia on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.
Jonnye married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Larry Miller, on July 1, 1948. She was the daughter of Elsie and Charles Chambers, sister to George “Bud” and Bernadette Chambers; mother of five children, Jan (Ed) Sauter, Jeff (Anne) Miller, Joel (Janan) Miller, Jill Millar and Jay (Sara) Miller; aunt to Corie Denslow, Sheila Keene and Cheryl Conner; and grandmother to 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was very proud of her work as a registered nurse at Hines Hospital in Chicago during World War II, University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, English Valley Care Center and their family medical practice in North English. Spending most of her 86 years in North English, Iowa, she was always involved with her children's activities and her husband's medical practice. Recently she moved to Solon, Iowa, to be closer to her family.
Jonnye enjoyed traveling with her family and spent many summers at her favorite retreat, their cabin overlooking Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. She spent many hours corresponding with friends and family through letters and emails; she was proud of her computer skills, a voracious reader and an enthusiastic Hawkeye fan.
Honoring her wishes, a private family remembrance will be held at a later date. Following her husband's lead she donated her body to The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for scientific purposes. Memorials may be sent to a charity of your choice in Jonnye's name.
The celebration of her life will continue on in the hearts of her family.
Online condolences may be sent to Jonnye's family through the web at .
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City is caring for her arrangements.
