Miller, Esther L.
Esther L. Miller, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:30 Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Miller. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Esther Lavonne Fitch was born Dec. 12, 1927, near Britt, Iowa, to Edward and Rosa (Hix) Fitch. Esther attended “country school” and later “town school” in Gordon, Neb., before graduating from high school in Algona, Iowa, in 1946. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Algona.
On June 22, 1947, Esther was united in marriage to Andrew Miller. After their marriage, they lived in Fairfax, Iowa, for 34 years before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1981.
Esther is survived by her husband, Andrew Miller of Cedar Rapids; their children, Carol White of Cedar Rapids, Wayne (Chris) Miller of Loveland, Ohio and Ken (Janelle) Miller of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Jessica Turnley, Elizabeth White, Kelly Hippert, Megan Quisno, Kaitlin Miller, Ryan Miller and Jill Bushman; and nine great-grandchildren, Jade Turnley, Holden Turnley, Mila Alcaraz, Nolan Hippert, Lauren Miller, Brielle Quisno, Kyler Carson, Joshua Carson and Baby Boy Bushman, who is expected in January.
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Kenneth Lyle Miller; brothers: Victor, Chester, Lyle and Harold “Jim” Fitch; and sisters, Leona Williams, Vera Annabelle Fitch, Lois Zimmerman and Edna Lange.
