Miles, Thelma Irene

Funeral services for Thelma Irene Miles, 69, of Tipton, who died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City after a courageous battle with cancer, will be held Tuesday, July 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Lashmit. A visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton. Burial will be at Tipton Masonic Cemetery, Tipton.

Thelma Irene Lay, daughter of Lester Irvin and Gladys Ora Fountain Lay, was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Novinger, Mo. She attended school in Kirksville, Mo. On May 24, 1958, Thelma was united in marriage to Galen Monroe Miles. Thelma was employed by Procter & Gamble and was a member of the Coachman Camping Club.

Thelma is loved and survived by her husband, Galen Miles of Tipton; daughters, Deborah (Ray) Hanson of Hills and Teresa Richmond of Williamsburg, Iowa; sons, Ronnie Miles of Colfax, Mike (Cindy) Miles of Iowa City, Roger (Brenda) Miles of Brighton and Don (Michelle) Miles of Tipton; grandchildren, Tim, Laura, Julia, Amy, Kendra and husband Josh, Jacob, Sarah, Amber, Alex and wife Monica, Charlie, Steven, Anthony, Heather and Christopher; great-grandchild, Brackyn; sister, Zelma Andrews of Springfield, Mo.; and ex-daughter-in-law, LuAnn Miles of West Branch.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Junior, Archie and Freddie.
