Miles, Rolland E.
Rolland E. Miles, 81, of Mason City, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. SE, with Pastor Paul Nelson officiating. Interment will be held in Elmwood–St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church, Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Rollie was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Clear Lake, Iowa, the son of Richard and Anne (Schlutz) Miles. He graduated high school in Alexandria, La. He was enlisted in the Army and stationed in Japan from 1955 to 1957, before returning home and earning a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University. Rollie was united in marriage to Mary Abrahamson on Aug. 13, 1961, and to this union, three children were born, Pamela Jo, Michael and Tami.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Rollie also enjoyed sports, especially golf and loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, Iowa State Cyclones and Minnesota Vikings. He loved playing cards and taking trips with his friends and family. He had a great sense of humor and will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew him.
Rollie is survived by his wife, Mary of Mason City; son, Michael (Carrie) Miles and their children, Tristyn and Connor, of Omaha, Neb.; and daughter, Tami (Josh) Moore and their children Hunter and Spencer of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Pamela Jo.
