Mildred Helen Jones passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at age 96.
Mildred was born April 24, 1921, near Conroy, the daughter of Christian and Bertha Cashman Kelting. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1938. Mildred was united in marriage to Ralph David Jones on June 17, 1941, at her parents' home in Hilton Township. She lived on farms within one mile of her birthplace until she moved to Highland Ridge.
An 86-year member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Mildred was a charter member of United Methodist Women and served in numerous volunteer roles. In 2007, she participated in the groundbreaking for the new church building in her role as member with the longest tenure.
She is survived by five children, Doris (Chris) Rembold of Louisburg, Kan., Arlene (Marlen) Junck of Stoughton, Wis., Evelyn (Glenn) Beavers of Ames, Dwight (Peg) Gildemeister of Williamsburg and Shirley (Charles) Coulson of Anchorage, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; parents; sisters, Freda Kelting and Viola Gildemeister; and brother, Harold Kelting.
Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg. Pastor Louie Gallo will officiate. Burial will be at Pilot Grove Cemetery, rural Williamsburg. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
A memorial fund has been established for the St. Paul Building Fund or Iowa County 4-H Scholarship Foundation.
