Mildred was born Sept. 5, 1914, in Belle Plaine, to John and Lora (Talbot-Bladen) Schild. Mildred graduated from Belle Plaine High School in 1932. On Dec. 28, 1933, she married Howard E. Beyer at Belle Plaine Methodist Church. The couple started out farming in the rural areas of Belle Plaine before settling on a farm of their own in 1943 near Koszta, where they raised their three children. Mildred played an active role in working the farm as well as many activities throughout the community, including volunteering as a 4-H leader and teacher of adult night school craft classes in Marengo.
In retirement, Mildred and Howard enjoyed visiting nursing homes where they would play keyboard music for the residents. They also enjoyed camping, starting with their first Iowa State Fair camping trip in the '40s. It became a yearly tradition the family always will cherish. They also enjoyed spending winters in South Texas.
Mildred was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church and a member of Koszta United Methodist Women, Iowa River Campers, Iowa County Historical Society, Belle Plaine Historical Society and Iowa Farm Bureau Organization.
She is survived by her children, Gwenda (James) Timm of Victor, Larry (Nancy) Beyer of Marengo and Lynn (Sue) Beyer of Jewell; grandchildren, John Beyer, Mike (Lisa Noethe) Beyer, Kimberly (Ryan) Moffitt and Jennifer Beyer; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Paige McKenna; great-great-grandson, Beckham McKenna; brother, John Richard Schild of Grinnell; and sisters-in-law, Jean Schild of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Marion Beyer of Keystone.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard, in 2006; brother, Donald Schild; and grandchild, Chad Beyer.
