Mikulecky, Maxine Eva
Maxine Eva Mikulecky, 94, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 3, at Salem United Methodist Church, 3715 33rd Ave. SW, with the Rev. John Louk presiding. Inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Maxine was born Nov. 12, 1917, in Prairieburg, the daughter of Ambrose and Viola (Becker) Sproston. She married Lester Mikulecky on June 7, 1941, at the Bertram United Methodist Church. Maxine was a housewife for many years and also worked at Killian's for over 30 years.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening as well as being active in her church for over 60 plus years. She was instrumental in creating the Cards and Fellowship Club at Salem.
She was the family matriarch and was the host and coordinator of the family holiday dinners and parties.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Lester J. Mikulecky Sr.; their children, Kathleen (Larry) Wittmer, Sharon Ernberger and Lester (Christine) Mikulecky Jr.; eight grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Wittmer, Dusty (Monica) Ernberger, Heidi (Terry) Dunlay, Derek (Kristi) Ernberger, Lester Mikulecky III, Jeremy (Sidni) Mikulecky, Joshua (Heidi) Mikulecky and Jonathan Mikulecky; eight great-grandchildren, Logan (Elaine), Spenser, Michael, Lindsey, Brett and triplets Austen, Caitlen, Brooklen; a sister, Wilma Knapp of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Larry (Janelle) Sproston of Lisbon; and a brother-in-law, Louis Cerveny of Savannah, Ill.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bill (Ruthann) Sproston; a sister, Mable (Anthony) Connor; and a brother-in-law, Jim Knapp.
Memorials may be directed to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy or Salem United Methodist Church.
