Mikel R. Roggentien, 61, of Marengo, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at his home after a long valiant battle with cancer. Private family services will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 27, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.
Memorials may be contributed to the Marengo Memorial Hospital Foundation, 300 W. May St., PO Box 228, Marengo, IA 52301.
Mike is survived by his wife of 42 years, Barbara; his son, Robert and wife Lindsey of Chicago; three daughters, Tascha Naber and husband Kirk of Overland Park, Kan., Traci Nandi and husband Partha of New York City, N.Y., and Christina Roggentien of West Des Moines; three grandchildren, Lauren and Cameron Naber and Jayden Nandi; and a granddaughter to be born in April. Also surviving are his mother, Ann Roggentien of Williamsburg; and sister, Suzette Roggentien of Gladstone, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Bob" G. Roggentien in 1977.
Mikel Robert Roggentien was born May 23, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Robert G. and Ann M. Shramek Roggentien. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School with the class of 1971 and married Barbara Bral on May 1, 1971, in Webster City, Iowa. The couple made Marengo their home and raised four children there.
For the past 27 years, Mike was owner and operator of Roggentien Salvage in Marengo, a family-owned business for 78 years. Mike loved his work, friends and family. He mostly enjoyed the annual family vacation to Marco Island, Fla.
