Mikeal D. Franks, 60, of Marietta, Lancaster, Pa., died Nov. 12, 2014, in Kindred Health Care, 10 days shy of his 61st birthday.
Born in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a son of Mikeal V., husband of Dorothy Franks, Wyoming, Iowa, and the late Whitney A. (Dodd) Franks.
He was employed by Iowa Steel as a foundry worker before moving to Pennsylvania, where he was employed by Wilton Armetel for 20 years.
Mikeal was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving all over the South Pacific for two years.
He was a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes football fan.
Mikeal was passionate about military history.
Even until the end Mikeal was very sharp-witted and a gentle person.
In addition to his father and stepmother, he is survived by eight siblings: Dan R., husband of Debra Franks, and Jerry L. Franks, all of Cedar Rapids; Timothy A., husband of Laina, Naples, Fla.; Kenneth J. Franks, partner of Sarah Guest, Wyomissing, Pa.; Steven K. Franks, Cedar Rapids; Karyl S. Franks, partner of Mark Simcox, Anamosa; Laura K. Franks, Cedar Rapids, and Rachel A. Franks, Kansas City, Kan. He also is survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Sherman, Neb., and 18 nieces and nephews.
Mikeal was predeceased by his sister, Emily Sherman.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Springville.
