Mike Connelly, 78, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family from complications of Agent Orange exposure.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, with interment in the Oakwood Cemetery with military honors by the United States Marine Corps. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Pastor Frank Shepherd will officiate at the services. Goettsch Funeral Home has taken Mike and his family into their care. Surviving are his brother, Terry (Vickie) Connelly, Lowden; a sister-in-law, Sharon Connelly, Marion; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Tim.
James Michael Connelly was born Dec. 6, 1943, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Lacrosse, Wis. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1962. Mike worked construction before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, in 1965, during the Vietnam War. He was wounded in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart. He returned to Monticello to rehabilitate and started working for Carl Kelchen Construction and later with Bill Hall.
Mike started his career with the United States Post Office delivering mail in Cascade. He transferred to Monticello in 1983 and delivered mail here until he retired in 2018.
Mike loved sports of any kind but was a fanatic Green Bay Packer Fan and a Packer Owner. He loved to go to Las Vegas with his friends and go to the Sports Books. Mike’s extended family, his brothers, his nephew and nieces and later great-nieces and -nephews were important to him. He rarely missed one of their personal or sporting events.
