Miene, Wayne Julius Ewald
Wayne Julius Ewald Miene, 69, of Monona, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at Iowa City Veterans Health Care System.
He was born Sept. 11, 1944, to Fred William and Frances (Gilson) Miene in Postville. Wayne was baptized on Nov. 12, 1944, and confirmed on March 30, 1958, at St. Paul Evangelical Church, Postville. He graduated from Postville High School in 1963.
Wayne was united in marriage with Karen Kutzbach on Sept. 25, 1965, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. Three sons were born to this union: Thomas, Trent and Trace.
Wayne started farming with his family in Luana right out of school until entering the United States Army in January 1966 and serving in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in October 1967. After returning from war, he continued to farm until retiring in 1989 to Monona. Wayne raised livestock and trucked for over 40 years.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 48 years, Karen of Monona; three sons, Tom (fiancee, Angie Waack) of Wilton, Trent (Melissa) Miene of Monona and Trace (Sherri) Miene of Monona; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Miene of Wilton, Ashley (Jason) Feldman of Wilton, Ryan and Meghan Waack of Wilton, Autumn, Lizzie and Ben Miene of Monona and Kale and Landyn Miene of Monona; a brother, Willard (Karla) Miene of Luana; two sisters, Patricia (Bob) Dotseth of Decorah and Erma Swenson of Luana; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Miene of Postville.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Miene; a niece, Sandra Ehrhardt; and a nephew, Keith Miene.
Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, and one hour before services at the church on Friday. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with the Rev. Steve Brackett as officiant. Burial will follow at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg, with military honors. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona is helping the family with the arrangements.
