Michele Wegmann, 36, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha, conducted by Father Mark Ressler. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service at the church.
Michele is survived by her parents, Gerry and Jane Wegmann of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Christy (Rob) James of Johns Island, S.C., and Catherine (Allen) Wilson of Denver, Colo.; brother, Mitch (Sloane) Wegmann of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; nieces, Jessie and Jordie; and nephews, Leighton, Calvin, Marshall and Holden.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Leighton and Wava White and Frank and Rosella Wegmann.
Michele was born Oct. 1, 1980, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Gerry and Jane (White) Wegmann. She graduated from Burlington Notre Dame High School. She attended Drake University and graduated from Mount Mercy University, receiving her bachelor's degree in sociology with honors.
Michele was a world traveler, and she loved the Galapagos Islands. She was a Cubs fan before it was cool, and she was passionate about politics. She had an irreverent sense of humor and loved her family. She loved being "Auntie Chele" to her nephews. Her beloved siblings deemed her the "World's OKAYest Sister."
