Michel "Mike" Jerome Stramel, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, after a courageous battle with multiple illnesses. Services: 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 18, at the funeral home. Military rites will be conducted. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Laurie of Cedar Rapids; children, Justin Stramel, Katie Stramel and Devin (Aaron Fleming) Stramel, all of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Trace Michel Burnham; sisters, Susan (Leo Johnson) Stramel of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl (Kurt) Carlson of Marion; mother-in-law, Linda (Ken) Viggers of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Deborah (Bill) Walter of Aurora, Ill.; uncle, Louis (Lavonne) Stramel of Cedar Rapids; aunt, Kathryn Hansen of Cedar Rapids; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his dog, Gigi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Melda Stramel; and father-in-law, Robert Hoskins Sr.
Mike was born Nov. 21, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, son of Jerome and Melda (Rhodes) Stramel. He served with honor in the Vietnam War with the United States Army. Mike worked for Square D and formerly for Farmstead/Wilson Foods. He met the love of his life, Laurie Yeisley, in 1990 and they were married.
Mike loved restoring cars, hot rods and classic cars. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports, racing and annual trips to the "Back to the 50's Car Show."
A memorial fund has been established.
