Michel, Larry
Larry Michel died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, from injuries sustained in a car accident. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Larry, better known as Poke to his family and friends, was born Aug. 16, 1977, to Larry Michel Sr. and Susan Michel. Larry attended Vinton Schools and later Urbana. Poke searched several jobs but his favorite job was his first as a chef at CR Restaurant (Poke was a good cook).
Poke was full of life and made many friends. The love of his life was his daughter, Cori and he loved spending time with her. Poke also felt strong family ties to his brothers Rick, Rob and Brian Schlimmer and very close friend, Jeff Scott and a very special friend, Keri Michael, the mother of his daughter. Poke had a big love of music and was an avid guitar player.
Poke was preceded in death by his mother and father, Larry and Susan; his maternal grandparents, Jerauld and Alberta McElrath; and his paternal grandparents, Janet and Ray Daily and Lawerence Michel.
Poke his survived by his daughter, Cori; very special friend, Keri Michael; his brothers, Rick (Debra), Rob and Brian Schlimmer of North Carolina, and James Michel of Marshalltown; sisters, Sandy Rhodes and Vicky Michel of Marshalltown; aunts and uncles, Bob and Sharon McElrath of North Carolina, Nancy and Roger Newton of Urbana, Joyce Lint of Center Point, and Janice Hainey of Florida; and cousins, Deb and Mark Harrison of Shellsburg, Kim and Steve Prybil of Cedar Rapids, Jerry McElrath of Urbana, Tammy and Scott Hendryx of Center Point, and Jim and Karen Tessman of New Jersey.
