Michael L. Wernett, 66, of Center Point, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at his home. Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Sam Dronebarger. Private graveside: Center Point Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Kelly Van Deusen (Cory) of Garrison, Iowa, and Matthew Wernett of Center Point; two sisters, Christine Gigante (Joe) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Nancy Squires of Guthrie Center, Iowa; brother, Steven Wernett (Marjie) of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Courtney Wernett of Le Mars, Iowa, and Michael Van Deusen and Willem Van Deusen, both of Garrison; mother-in-law, Janice Boyles of Center Point; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynette and John Hernandez of Cedar Rapids; close friends, Larry, Marv and Ray; and special nephew, Dustan. Other survivors include his extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Taylor; and father-in-law, Lynn Boyles.
Michael was born March 1, 1951, the son of Lewis and Carol (McHugh) Wernett, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served with the U.S. Army. A graduate of Urbana High School, Michael was united in marriage to Donna Boyles on Aug. 26, 1989, in Urbana. Michael worked for Gary at Junge Ford from his days in a filling station to his position of service manager. His joys in life were hunting and fishing and he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.
