Michael Wayne Kness, 56, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Unity Point Transitional Care Center. Celebration of life gathering will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Private family inurnment will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Michael was born August 14, 1968, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald and Linda (Mehaffey)
Kness. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Prairie High School, class of 1989. He was an active member of the Specia
l Olympics of Iowa and the Boy Scouts of America. He was an avid collector of Star Wars, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, watching Golden Girls, and listening to The Monkees. In recent times he enjoyed coloring and eating pancakes.
Michael is survived by his mother Linda Kness; his siblings Stephen (Machelle) Kness, Tracy (Jerr
y) Summers and Teresa (Kness) Matt Kirk; two nieces Alexa and McKena; nephew Barrett; step niece Samantha; step nephew Cody; step-great nieces Kooper, Konner, Karter.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be directed to Special Olympics Iowa.
