Michael W. Jones, 75 of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, December 5, after a long-term illness.
Michael was born to Harold “Johnny” and Evelyn Jones on May 13, 1950 in Independence. The family moved to Monticello in 1955 when his father and a business partner purchased the Monticello Express. He graduated from Monticello Community Schools in 1968. In 1970, he enlisted in the Marines and was discharged in 1973 as a Sergeant. Michael spent his career working in IT with various companies; eventually retiring from his favorite workplace, Hewlett Packard.
He is survived by his siblings Kim and Beth Jones; his children Matthew (Erin) Wilde, Andrew (Lisa) Kubicek, and Emily (Casey) Ford; nieces, nephews and 7 grandchildren. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Alex Jones, and his second wife Lois.
He will be interred at Cedar Memorial in a private family ceremony at a later date; no public services will take place. In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider making a donation to your local Democratic candidate, PBS, NPR, Planned Parenthood, or your favorite cat rescue.
