Michael Vernon, 66, of Anamosa, died Friday, January 31, 2025, at his home.
Graveside funeral services will take place at 11:45 am, Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Forest Chapel Cemetery, rural Anamosa. Michael Wayne Vernon was born December 21, 1958, in Anamosa, the son of Wayne and Carolyn (Schaefer) Vernon. He was a member of the Class of 1977 at Anamosa High School, where he played football and wrestled. While in high school he started working for his uncle at Vernon’s Conoco. Later he would go on to work as a heavy equipment mechanic at Anchor Frame & Axle Inc. in Marion, and as a mechanic at Stickel Farms. He owned and operated Vernon Repair as well.
Michael enjoyed being outdoors, muscle cars, and helping on the family farm. He was a gifted auto mechanic, welder, and automobile painter. He will be remembered as a person who always liked going fast.
He is survived by his children Jenny (Zach) King, Anamosa, and Stephanie (Christian) Perfetti, Burlington, grandchildren Sydney Volkenant, Jacob King, Madison Perfetti, Dominic Perfetti, Alexander Perfetti, and Adrianna Perfetti, his mother Carolyn Vernon, Anamosa, and his siblings Terry Vernon, Tammy (Dick) Dearborn, and Mindy (Don) Boysen.
Michael was preceded in death by his father Wayne Vernon.
