Michael J. Pins, 63, of Cedar Rapids, was discovered deceased from natural causes in his home Friday, Feb. 7, 2014. Friends may visit with the family during a Time of Remembrance from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
Survivors include his son, Jason of Fairview Heights, Ill.; brothers, Gerald (Socorro) Pins of Henderson, Nev., and Ronald (LuAnn) Pins of Independence; sister, Julie Creech of Houston, Texas; nieces and nephews, Brandon Elderkin, James Watters, Alexa Boulet, Brianne Pins, Brandon Pins, Billie Jo Pins and Jaci Pins; and former spouse, Jeannie Pins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin Pins and Gladys Johnson; stepfather, Marvin Johnson; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Michael Jon was born Oct. 24, 1950, in Independence, the son of Merlin J. and Gladys Johnson (Kortenkamp) Pins. He graduated from St. John's High School in Independence and then attended Kirkwood for two years. He married Jeannette Jost on March 20, 1970, in Cedar Rapids. They were later divorced. Michael worked at Rockwell Collins as a lab tech for 38 years, retiring in 2007. Michael enjoyed rock and roll music and loved playing his guitar.
