MICHAEL JAMES "PERCY" GAYNOR
Cedar Rapids
Michael James "Percy" Gaynor, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died Sept. 9, 2016, after being involved in an auto/pedestrian accident.
Mike was born April 21, 1945, the son of James "Pete" and Naomi Gaynor. He graduated from Fayette High School as a three-sport athlete. He studied at Upper Iowa University in Fayette and was proud to have been on the Iowa Conference Champion and Hall of Fame honored 1963 football team.
Mike worked at Cryovac and in later years at Midwest Janitorial Service. He was quick-witted, entertaining, politically incorrect and a true cult legend. He was the master of one-liners in his classic deadpan delivery. People checked in regularly with Mike for his classic commentary and spin on everyday life. He believed in good beer, good friends and good times. There will be a vast void in the lives of his many, many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard "Dick" Gaynor; and a sister, Leta Lavon (Gaynor) Becker.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home, 1228 Second St. SE, Cedar Rapids. A private burial will be held at a later date.
