Michael Patten Atwood, 74, passed peacefully from this life and into the arms of his Savior, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith, deep love, and joyful humor. Michael was born on August 19, 1951 in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1969 and served in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Patricia Bryant Atwood; his mother, Jean Henchal; his children Angela (Jerrid) Jungling, Jeremy (Nicole) Atwood, Tabitha (Brett) Luth, Christy (Jason) Alphin, and Stephanie Gomez (Aaron Richardson); ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Dunham, and many nieces and nephews who cherished his playful spirit and steady presence.
Michael was preceded in death by his grandparents Julius and Arnette Moneypenny and Lester and Emma Atwood; his father Jerry Atwood; his stepfather Donald Henchal; his son Jay Atwood; and his sister Judy Reedy.
Military Honors were part of a memorial service in Fayetteville. A celebration of life will be held in Cedar Rapids at a later date.
