Michael "Mike" Wilson, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospice, Cedar Rapids, following a lengthy illness. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, is caring for Mike
and his family.
Survivors include his
sons, Bryce James McGough of Sumner and John
(Melonie) McGough of Cedar Rapids; former spouse, Sandy McGough of Santa Fe, N.M.; sister-in-law, Nellie Wilson of Dundee; and several friends.
Michael Dean Wilson was born Jan. 7, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, to Cyrus and Frances (Ennis) Wilson. He attended George Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. After graduating from high school, Mike joined the U.S. Navy. Mike raised horses and belonged to the Center Point Saddle Club and the Cedar Rapids Horsemen's Club. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids in Forestry for many years, and later in life for himself doing maintenance work. Mike enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and mushroom and asparagus hunting. He was talented house painter, completing many home renovations over the years. He was known as a funny guy to his friends, and will be missed by those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, George.
