MICHAEL "MIKE" ALLEN KRIZ
Cedar Rapids
Michael "Mike" Allen Kriz, 51, left the world on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, the same way he entered it: early. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the memorial service. The family plans a private burial this summer. Arrangements by Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Mike's greatest pride was his two sons, Josh (Laura Logsdon) of Saint Paul, Minn., and Chad of Santa Cruz, Calif. He is survived by a large, loving family and community of friends, including his beloved wife, Amy; his two sons; father, Max Kriz; brother, Jeff Kriz; grandmother, Shirley Bravender; and in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Born eight weeks premature on Dec. 3, 1965, to Max and Joan (Weed) Kriz, Mike grew up with his brother, Jeff, in Waterloo, Iowa. Mike met his wife, Amy Wasek, through work at a Hy-Vee bakery, where he built a successful career spanning 30 years.
Throughout his life, Mike was passionate about biking and the outdoors, Hawkeye athletics, great food and his sweet dogs. He and Amy enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, where they explored new places and made lasting memories. He prioritized caring for family and nurturing friendships. In his two sons, Mike instilled a love of BMX racing, a strong sense of pride in hard work and deep compassion. During his illness, Mike spent quality time with the people he loved, kept his sense of humor and continued to make new friends with his doctors and nurses.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan; grandparents, Charles Weed, Harold Bravender and Allen and Marion Kriz; and his beloved beagles, Gus and Sugar.
In lieu of flowers, you may direct memorials to the family, who will donate to Mike's favorite organizations. You may honor Mike's memory by petting your dog and going for a long bike ride.
