Michael "Mike" P. Higgins, 62, of Hiawatha, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021, at UnityPoint-St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. In honor of Mike, the family request you wear your favorite sports attire to the visitation.
Following the continued guidance from health officials, physical distancing must be practiced, which requires a limited number of people allowed into the visitation at one time. The use of face masks or shields is required.
Mike was born Oct. 29, 1958, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of William and Nancy (Belikin) Higgins. He graduated from St. Edmond High School and attended Iowa State University. Mike achieved his culinary arts degree from AIC College in Davenport, Iowa. Mike was united in marriage to Jill Cameron on Aug. 6, 1995, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was very sports minded and was an avid Iowa State, Hawkeye, Chicago Cubs and Dallas Cowboys fan! Mike enjoyed playing golf, cooking and spending time with his beloved family. His greatest accomplishment was celebrating 33 years of sobriety on April 24, 2021.
Mike is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jill Higgins of Hiawatha, Iowa; a sister, Kathleen (Blake) Lewis of Richardson, Texas; brother, William Higgins III of Kirkland, Wash.; his in-laws, Jerry and Patty Cameron of Owensboro, Ky.; sister-in-law, Dana (Stan) Kepley of Rock Port, Ind.; brother-in-law, Jason (Dawn) Cameron of Owensboro, Ky.; special companion, his cat, Izzie Lou; and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his fur baby, Sasha.
