Michael "Mike" Stephen Cira, 43, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly
on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion, conducted by Father David O'Connor. Cremation will take place following Mass. A private committal service will take place at a later date.
Michael was born Sept. 29, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Michael and Laura (North) Cira. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1993. Mike attended Lake Superior College and Northwest-Lineman College. He was formerly employed as a lineman for M.J. Electric and as a firefighter for the U.S. Forestry Service. Mike was a member of the IBEW Union Local 55. He was a professional walleye fisherman and loved the outdoors. Mike enjoyed woodworking and had recently started golfing. He was a loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. Mike was a loving, caring and devoted son, brother, uncle, loving companion and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his parents, Michael and Laura Cira of Marion; loving companion, Kristina Meyer of Cedar Rapids; sister, Katie (Wes) True of Marion; brother, Andrew (Caryn) Cira of Coggon; niece, Addison Cira; nephew, Michael Cira; and his beloved golden retriever, "Ellie."
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous or the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids in Mike's memory.
